Well now...I don't want to be wide open on all fronts...but I think
whether or not to expose myself and client to a certain security risk
for the benefits should be our decision.

Where along the food chain does this get decided?  Is it an OS thing,
or CF?  Browser?

Yep...gotta agree with Ian.

Now Rick if you really want to control your own security decisions, just
install
any version of Windows on a connected machine and do not install any SPs or
patches...
