Valid feelings, I shared them for a bit, but with all the blogs out
there of how to leverage java from within CF, that's kinda a moot
point now(fer me). Nothing stops me from utilizing the underlying
code, which is really a bunch of quite powerful java APIs or
whatnot.
Well, it's not that easy, I guess, but I was able to grab
some code for javamail off the net, and get SSL enabled IMAP
going pretty quick, for example. ^JasperReports was a
challenge, but mostly because of my lack of knowledge. With
a little help from Rick, I got it going tho (thanks Root!).

I guess it's sorta like the analogy of using assembler for
some stuff, even tho most the app is visual basic. Makes for
a powerful combination. If you're doing heavy duty stuff, you
want to use the underlying java code, plain and simple.

Ties into the framework thread too, that analogy... probably
some name for that theory or whatever - "The Kauffman factor".
Heh. Bet there is...

But whatever- the main thing is you can do most of the stuff
just fine, just kinda slower than you can if you do some lower
lever stuff yourself.

Try some java FTP code instead of relying on CF itself. That
way you retain the nifty-ness of "run anywhere" *g*, and easy
server transference, or whatnot.

The Livedocs are super help for most of this stuff, that is a
really good documentation methodology. Really good. wiki-ish.
Yummy! Many Thanks to all who've added to 'em!!

But I've been able to do just about anything I've wanted to with
CF (sometimes I add some jars to the install, but still ;). If it
were free I'd use it for personal stuff, fer sure.

Yay Java! O.o
