In response to myself... ;)

I'm not saying that anybody should drop Windows for Linux.  I saw your
recent debate in another thread, Dave, and I tend to agree that in most
cases it's easier, and possibly better, to use the OS that you're
familiar with.  In this thread, I'm just talking facts (or maybe
'theories' is more correct, since none of us has done any benchmarking).
