(just to be perfectly clear...i'm not sean, but...) It depends. Risk vs. Reward. If the potential reward was the job of a lifetime... my dream job (etc etc), I'd be willing to invest some time into writing something. I spent more than 20-30 hours on the Blackjack contest, and lord knows nobody's going to use my entry. But it was fun, and I learned quite a bit (the latter being the reason I entered in the first place). That's actually a great example. I didn't enter that contest for the prize. Didn't need the prize. I entered because I thought that, for me, it would be a good learning experience (and it was).
