Russ, I can see your problem a little more clearer now, and I just prefer to keep unecessary code off production. I can't comment any further on that, I see what your doing I am against it but I also see you have no option.
I must admit if you dont't have a VPN to the server it just makes it so dificult to not do what your doing.
