Right...

And when it comes down to it, it's not that expensive. I think that it's
$150. That's nothing.

is the location of the exam?

I did my certification thinking it would help me get contract positions, but
i dont think it's made the slightest difference in that
respect. It was definitely worth doing though, because there was a
benefit I handn't thought of going in. As a result of doing the
exam, I know a LOT more about ColdFusion. In doing the study i had
to go into parts of the product that my daily coding life hadn't taken me
previously.

For example, I'd never had any occasion to need LDAP professionally, but in
the process of studying for the exam, I found out about LDAP and how
ColdFusion relates to it.

Because I have done the certification, I'm a far better programmer in
ColdFusion than i was previously. Certification study didnt teach
me much about sound programming principles, but I have picked that up
elsewhere.

In short, I think as a tool for getting jobs, I'd say Certification has
limited use. But as a tool for making yourself better at what you do it's
excellent.
