MS SQL 2005 has been out for awhile now, is a solid platform, has some
very nice advanced features at the data management level, improved
support for xml, and better support for today's larger, beefier machines.

MySQL 5 is really nice, finally bringing some nice enterprise SQL
functionality (like stored procs, triggers, views, cursors, clustering).
The syntax is very similar, with some nice additions (like LIMIT). It's
been out for awhile now, and is definitely showing to be an enterprise
class db platform. Toolsets for working with it have improved
significantly, licensing is much kinder on the wallet, and it can run on
more than one OS platform, opening less expensive hardware/OS options.
