I would think over the years many of us have used various free email accounts,
to name a few, years ago, rockmail and hotmail, in recent years, yahoo mail,
and most recently gmail, aside from desktop-based email like Outlook, then who
knows in three years or so, what new email system would come up. Very few of
them has interoperability, probably rockmail was bought by yahoo, hence, its
email were automatically transfered to yahoo account or something like that
(memory is getting 'rusty'). The point I'm making is, if I can switch to
another email system now or tomorrow and bring all my emails from one or more
email systems, I would feel so much better for maybe some tiny gem among tons
of junk email would still be around... Having said that, commericial interest
would probably stand in the way of standardization, actually email system using
XML as its data platform would probably work (just off my head), am I the only
idiot thinking of this?
