> How hard is it to get CF working with MySQL?

http://www.mysql.com/products/myodbc/index.html
I've used this into the past to make mySQL into an ODBC source. From that
point, CF can use it.

> Is it possible to convert a MySQL database to MS Access?

Would you want to convert so you can easily view table data? If so, it may
be better to have Access link to mySQL tables via ODBC. Access works well
to view mySQL table data. Not sure about actual conversions, though.

> Is MySQL any better than MS Access?

I've limited experience with mySQL, but the performance difference is
certainly there. When working with tables with large amounts of records,
mySQL is a lot faster. I would certainly prefer mySql over Access for web
