Yep, there are loadsa ways to do what he asks and indeed its personal preference....:-)
I would not use a Database but that�s me - unless it was all Stored Procedures, otherwise I think a call to a database is unecesary (especially on a huge site - 100,000+ users). That said, as long as all your locking is OK then a DB should be fine.!
