Thanks Jochem, but unless you go to unix or mac you can't forget IE. If you have a windows system you have to have IE. It's integral to the system. IT can't be uninstalled and can't be upgraded to repair damaged files if an upgrade has already been done. That's what the big court case was about.
Anyway if you're a web developer as I am, you have to have Netscape, IE and Opera of various flavours in order to adequately test your sites. To say that not using IE is an option is absurd. At least 85% of my users on any of my sites use IE4, IE5 or IE 6. How could I develop a site and not see what it looks like in IE? However your suggestion about downloading all the components might help. Although last time I tried to repair a damaged IE5.5 by reinstalling it, I got a message that IE5.5 had already been installed and it wouldn't over-write the files. The installation routine just aborted. I called Microsoft's support asking them how to get rid of IE to reinstall it and their only option was to reinstall Windows. That's not a trivial thing - there are 200 apps on this system all of which would have to be reinstalled, and then all the patches, bugfixes tweaks and customisation etc reinstalled. So I don't want to do that unless I really have to. So I'm still looking for options here. I'll download all the files it Mr Gates will let me and try reinstalling the browser. I hope it'll do it. Any other ideas people? Installed IE? That's your problem :) Forgetting about IE and installing Mozilla might be easiest. Second would be reverting to one of your backups. If both are not possible, try to run the install program in download only mode to make sure all the downloads work. Then, when you have all the files on disk, try to reinstall from disk instead of from the web. http://www.mozilla.org/ http://download.microsoft.com/download/ie55sp2/install/5.5_sp2/win98me/en-us/ie5setup.exe ______________________________________________________________________ Get the mailserver that powers this list at http://www.coolfusion.com FAQ: http://www.thenetprofits.co.uk/coldfusion/faq Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/index.cfm?sidebar=lists
