Honestly - My main reason for using XHTML is because it is SO much easier to do any sort of Ajax/DHTML scripting with a nice clean DOM.
Also with a cleaner document structure I find doing maintenance on the display layer a breeze, as opposed to the rigmarole I've gone through for regular ol' HTML when wanting to change a look and feel.
