First, you say a file "could not be deleted each time I tried to it said this file is being used by another process". While I can't recall that as a specific issue with mail files, it's of course a situation we all find ourselves in with files of all kinds, so here's a tip. - If you're on Windows, at least, there are some nifty tools that can help you identify what's locking the file. An old favorite is http://www.dr-hoiby.com/WhoLockMe/. Despite it saying it's a beta, I used it for years on an XP machine. When I moved to Vista, it no longer worked (one of the very few issues I've had with Vista, I might add, despite the assertions of most to the contrary), but I found this instead: http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/. This page also has a list of many alternatives and how they compare. Either of these two tools have been so helpful, also for when I can't eject a USB drive, as they can tell what process is locking a drive. Second, going back to your original question, your first thread asked what logs you could look in. I have to admit I don't have CF5 installed (did until a recent reinstall of my laptop) so can't confirm, but... - in 6 and above there are available mail logging settings on the "mail" page in the CF admin. They may instead be on the "logging settings" page under "debugging and logging" (as they are referred to in later releases, at least.) - under [cf]/logs you may find a mail.log and mailsent.log. The former is about errors delivering mail (inability to get out of CF) and the latter is where you see a tracking of each mail sent (metadata, not text contents) if you enabled in that mail logging in the CF Admin - you certainly want to keep an eye on not just the "spool" but also the "undelivr" folder, as that tracks messages that CF attempted to forward to the mail server (your mail server, not the mail recipients) but were rejected Finally, you say that "the cfmail server has been locking up", and those on 6+ will say "there is no mail server", but back in CF5 and previous, many things were controlled by separate services, like RDS and the scheduler. The former was controlled by an RDS service, but the latter was controlled by the "executive" service, and I seem to recall it controlled mail as well. So Claude, you may get away with just restarting that. Had you tried that? Since you do refer to it as "the cfmail server". Just seems worth clarifying (and again, this is different from the "real" SMTP mail server which CF points to and through which it sends mail to the recipients.) Hope those are helpful. /charlie PS Apologies to those who prefer twitter-like emails. When solving some problems, it's just hard to convey all that needs to be said in just a sentence or two. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Claude Raiola Sent: Monday, January 12, 2009 3:09 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [cfaussie] Re: CF5 Cfmail locking up I did stop the cf server steve and it still would not delete Anyway all seems to be fine now will know tomorrow if its an ongoing issue Regards Claude Raiola B.Econ (Acc), B.Hot.Mngt.
