1] gateway path which now points to: http://regencyhouse.peoplenews.com/flashservices/gateway which results in a blank page which I think means its working fine
2] The component path which points to the right place but I'm not too sure about this one? I presume that I don't need to set up a mapping for this in administrator since the flash file points to its location (and it works on the dev url)

I also read your post and i like the idea, will definitely try it next time, should save all this hassle.
I must be doing something wrong with my paths?

You should be able to call it directly and see a blank page if it's working ok.
