Depending on how long "a long time coming" is ... Unfortunately I have a feeling that those really wanting to push their web apps will have moved over to Postgres.
As much as I like mySQL, here we can't wait around for mySQL to come of age, and are already on the move over to Postgres.
No doubt mySQL will still have a place in the market, as well as serving well for those wanting to get their toes wet with databases - as does Access for those on the windows platform.

Subject: [cfaussie] mySQL comes into its own?
Hey everyone, just reading the new version press release from mySQL
http://www.mysql.com/press/release_2003_10.html
I must say - I'm quite exited about the prospects of 4.0 and v 4.1 (which is still in
alpha of development)
I know personally my major gripes with mySQL are - no foreign key constraints,
no transactional processing, and no sub queries.
While these are not all taken care of in V. 4.0, by 4.1 they will be.
What is also planned for v 5.0 is also a long time coming, but also looks quite
promising. (stored procedures being one thing)
Do you guys think we may see more of a pickup with ColdFusion and mySQL
development in the future? - At least possibly in a hosted environment?
I can see it being a very good quality alternative for those projects in which an
Access (shudder) db is used as MSSQL is just too big and too expensive to have
hosted for that project.
Just thought I'd throw this out there - and see what people thought...
or maybe I'm just bored while this server is down and I can do no work...
Mark
