Can I just add that you don't have to have the content in CSV format...
Excel (Office 2000 anyway, haven't tested other versions) has this
wonderful undocumented feature that lets you open a HTML file with an .xls
extension and display it as if it was an ordinary spreadsheet (with the
possible limitation that the HTML content should consist of a single table
only). We use this method as it allows formatted text, spanned columns /
rows, etc in the spreadsheet -- and it's easy to do.

If you're still in an intranet / IE environment, then the code in my
original post will work beautifully.
Just follow it up with the spreadsheet content in CSV format.
If I find a way to do it without CFContent, I'll post it.
