Unfortunately, while SVG might be your friend, unless it's your
*client's* friend then it's just technology for its own sake.

Mention SVG to the average print industry person and the response
is likely to be "huh?". Until SVG support comes standard with your 
average multi-hundred-thousand-dollar printer (like PDF does now) 
it'll get precisely nowhere in the print industry.
