Open your PC up. There is a cable (usually red and black) running from the little speaker in your case to the motherboard. Just pull it out of the motherboard. That's it.

But still it beeps e.g. when a "retry" dialogue box comes up (e.g. to

Ideally, I'd like the PC to either be quiet except for when a new email
arrives, or entirely quiet.

Is the only certain way to disconnect the speaker wire ?
