A retry dialog box is a windows event, and any sound it makes will be coming out of the speakers attached to the PC and not the motherboard speaker, so disconnecting the motherboard speaker will not have any effect. These days, the motherboard speaker only makes a sound when the pc is powered up. You should be able to either turn the volume down on your speakers, unplug them, or even better, if you have a small speaker on the bottom right edge of your screen, near the clock, you can click on that and click the mute button. There is also a sounds section in the control panel where a mute option should also be available.
