Then again, that's what a testing and bug fix development phase is for; getting technically savvy users who understand the tools to test the products before general release. We have Bugzilla being used by a range of users from full-on codemonkeys through to technically inept end-user testers. We've reskinned it so that it looks nicer, but the learning curve for most users is one to two hours at most. I sat down with our lead tester (who is definitely not a techie) and walked her through Red Hat's Bugzilla to show her how it worked. At the time, I was still in the process of installing our own copy. It took her about 10 minutes, tops, to have the whole concept figured out. We've shortened our test-and-fix cycle to about a week from over two weeks using Bugzilla. Just the audit trail and the fact pieces of paper aren't disappearing is a big help. A web interface was a key driver. We wanted universal access to the tool across our network. There's some fiddling to get it up and running, but if you're at least minimally competent with CPAN installs of Perl components and can follow instructions, you probably can't go wrong. I'm far from a *nix guru, but I had no problems. Now, if I could just get my Perl GD libraries to talk to Nagios properly...
