Sure you can - Thawte currently have them for $US 200 for a year. However I am pretty sure that you can generate your own certificates for free & use those. The only difference in theory is that you don't have BigTrustedCo saying "yes - we've double checked & this is Taco Fleur". The difference in practice is that users are asked whether they trust you (via a dialogue box) rather than just accepting the cert seamlessly. (Vik? Someone? It would be a much more effective use of your time in terms of providing "security" than trying to create your own method. Again no offence intended, that is my honest opinion.
