Peter, Totally without disrespect -
If you have concerns about your safety while in the Star City hotel, I suggest you give the hotel a call, and voice your concerns, and see what answer they give you in regards to any and all security that they wll be utilising for the conference and/or generally for those staying in the hotel. If their answer doesn't make you feel that you are safe within the hotel, then there is a very clear option to take - vote with your feet, and don't go to MXDU. I would have been more concerned by your post if you had already called Star City and had asked them what their security measures where going to be and they had replied 'Oh you know, we might have some guys in paper mache hats'. Personally, I don't feel unsafe when in Sydney (in the rare cases that that happens) I'm not sure why you would either. > The latest incident was a drive by shooting, they've had disgruntled > gamblers drive their cars into the lobby, drug busts in the hotel, what > next? Well technically anything could be next - a plane could fall out of the sky and land on my head as I sit here typing to you. All we can be is as safe as we possibly can. I don't mean to belittle you in any way - I'm sure your fears are well founded, but if they really are a concern for you - get the relevent information to decide if the situation doesn't warrant your participation (and if it doesn't, more power to you for making a firm stand). That being said - look forward to seeing you at MXDU if you still decide to attend.
