Just wondering for those who have their own. What are the key things I need?, do most people write there own simple blogs? or get a pre-writen one. What blogs currently exist for CFAUSSIE users?
Movable Type is probably the industry standard if you want to host your own. It's written in Perl and publishes to HTML or to CFML if you write the templates that way.

If I was to write my own, what sort of key features are in a blog? are they all xml driven? or can they by SQL database?
You can use XML, a database or flat files - it's up to you.
Also. what does 'blog' stand for?
Short for web log.
are they used mainly for communication within a group of developers? or for everyone? there must be hundreds of them about the place.
Thousands. Maybe even hundreds of thousands. Most are public I suspect but many companies are now using them internally as well.
Sometimes I visit http://www.fullasagoog.com and www.markme.com and check out the multi channel blog listings. What do you do to become apart of a system like those, are there any other multiblog websites like this? for maybe Australian Sites?
You ask the site owner to add your RSS feed (most blogs publish recent entries as an XML feed in RSS format, in addition to publishing HTML for the web).
