Hi Gavin,

Do you mean you will pay $356 +GST for 1RU a month for the deal?

The access charges sound a bit steep. Connect.com.au is 150/hr on 4 hours
notice. You *will* need access believe me. And you probably will need
multiple hours on some situations (software installs/upgrades,
troubleshooting, hardware replacement, etc.)

There is plenty you need to be on the look out for...

Cost of traffic outside the limits, link speed, hops to backbone, IP number
allocation, router setup, time allowed to install and commission your
hardware onsite, access to monitor, keyboard & mouse, how will you control
the server (ie how do you intend to reboot it when it hangs?), UPS,
emergency power, security, fire supression, insurance, firewall, how will
you control your server remotely, will you need to provide a switch, room
for expansion.

I think you will need more space that one rack unit in order to provide
support hardware, (managed power sitching, managed swith, firewall, etc)
and I would allow for at least 2-4 RUs at a minimum by the time you can
confidently shut the door on the server and be able to have some control
over it and avoid paying for access every couple of months.

Co-location is good in lots of ways, but there is nothing like having the
server in a room next to where you sit every day for sheer convenience and
reliability.
