As the person who kicked this thread off, I want to clarify a couple
of things, just so people dont get the wrong idea ...

[A] I am NOT NOT NOT sticking the knife into Macromedia. Never was.
Never intended to. The biggest threat to my income at present is if
Macromedia doesnt succeed, so I'm very interested in seeing that the
company grows and strengthens its position in Australia. I dont use
diplomatic language and I was pretty provocative because I didnt think
the same question was taken very seriously at the CFUG meeting the
night before. I thought it was assumed I was just stirring the pot for
the fun of it.

[B] I was genuinely wanting to know how servers were being sold and
how CF was being promoted to server buyers in Australia, because I
didnt know. There had been no activity in my sphere that indicated
anyone was doing anything to sell more servers (and therefore grow the
need for developers). I've since had my attention drawn to lots of
things that are going on, that wouldnt have come past my eyes anyway,
so I'm satisfied that MM are doing what they can with the resources
they have available. I said in my original post I hoped I was wrong,
and I was.

And I said so a few days ago.

[C] I'm getting really sick of hearing how wonderful the market for
developers is in Sydney. I've had one member of this list say "I've
turned down three jobs this month". Another said "I know people who
are looking for developers and can't find them" Robin said in this
thread that "RocketBoots is short of
suitable ColdFusion candidates for the jobs we're trying to place."

WELL HELLO!!!! Why dont some of you tell me where they are then? If
you dont want those jobs, and you are having trouble finding people,
I've had the worst year (financially speaking) since 1981. For most of
the last 11 years, I have relied on contracting work for 2/3 of my
income, and this year I've had a total of just 8 weeks, and they were
at an insulting rate of less than $25/hour.

Robin, if you need people - I had no idea you were looking for people.
I didnt even know you did that - then why not let me have a go for
it?

I know I speak bluntly. I'm outspoken on some things. But I'm really
quite house trained, and dont chew up the furniture much any more. I
know I sometimes ask some dumb questions on this list, but think about
it ... dont you guys ask questions of each other at the next desk
sometimes? When you work on your own as I do most of the time, you
dont have anyone to lean across and ask - thats what CFAussie and
CF-Talk does for us.

So .. I'm reasonably competent at ColdFusion, I have a wealth of
management experience, business analysis and implementation
experience, and a lot of knowledge about integrating the internet with
the rest of organisations - more than many of you I'd suspect because
I'm older than most and I've been in middle and senior management
since I was 23. I've spent the majority of my career inventing
business solutions and seeing them through. The web is a pretty new
thing for me - like only the last 9 years - but I think I'm a quick
learner and I think I've grasped more than the fundamentals, even if
Flash is still elusive to me.

If you know of a contract opportunity involving CFMX or CF5 around the
Sydney area - anywhere reasonably accessible will do me, then dont
just say "the market's booming" give me a hint where to look!

I need the work, and I'm available on a few days' notice. If you dont
want it, let me have it!

Cheers
