To make sure that the original poster does not misunderstand, there is nothing wrong with var scoping a query object as a string. CF is not strongly typed and that is not a requirement.

The addition of initializing the variables with the type that you are going to use it for is a preference. I read my original reply over and I didn't have that clearly enough stated.

To everyone else I think I answered your questions with my previous email. Let me know if you still don't understand why I like doing it that way or not.
