I'm talking about java code that generates whitespace to send to the browser. If you use tag based syntax it is there, if you use script based syntax it isn't. The code calls a method and passes the whitespace characters to that. The method presumably only generates the whitespace if the admin, cfsetting and cfprocessingdirective checks permit it.
