It really isn't socialism that's at fault here: it's the lack of
willingness of the community to pay for anything. People complain
about the cost of CF Standard (let alone CF Enterprise), people
complain about Will selling his T shirts, people complain about the
cost of CFDJ (I complain about it's lack of content, but that's
another story). Several people have berated the CF community for being
"cheap".
I've been completely embarassed by a few folks out there that were
rippin' Ben for "making huge profits" on his CF books. It was so
bad, I felt the need to apologize to Ben for their behavior, and I did.
To this day, I still cannot understand how some people think like
that, and how they're so willing to embarass themselves by speaking
publicly about it. I was aware I'd run into it myself with the
CF shirts, and it didn't take long until I did.
I'll admit, I've been a little guilty in the past. When I whined about
CFUNITED costing so much more than CFUN04, you(Sean) ripped into me
for not realizing the incredible bargain you get when you attended the
improved, more-speakers, more-training event. You were right in doing so!
I learned a good bit of info when that happened.
The cheapness I displayed came from being a small-time-operator. There's
a big difference between $250 and $550 and it hits a small-timer a
little harder
than the bigger-timers. :) So, I'll just hunker down, save some extra
$$, earn some extra $$, and stop whining.
We're talking about a few different things though. Mine was from being
cheap because I don't have quite as much latitude when it comes to
expenditures. :).
There are actually SOME people out there that dislike someone "making
money off them", whether it's training, a book, a t-shirt, software
....it doesn't matter...
How embarassing!
Are we hearing whining like mine due to a large number of small-timers
and CF newbies?
