This is a tangentially related thought -

I realized that now that we've changed the Task stamp to the Star stamp, we also need to change the IMAP folders. I'm proposing that we remove the Chandler Tasks folder altogether. The 'Star' is now really just another 'adjective' attribute on items, like Triage Status. It's not really a 'Kind of Item' the way Messages and Events are.

We had to make a similar kind of decision in the Item>>New menu. Instead of replacing 'Create New Task' with 'Create New Starred Note', we simply removed it.

Hi Brian,

I think using flags instead of or in addition to the IMAP folders is a better workflow for a couple of reasons:

1. Less hand-mouse coordination. Flagging is considerably easier.

2. Avoids out-of-sight-out-of-mind. Adding or moving messages to Chandler IMAP folders doesn't help you 'keep track' of what those messages were in your email client. Flagging provides a persistent 'visual cue' of what messages you've chosen to put into Chandler.

3. Allows you to continue to 'file' emails even if you're putting them in Chandler. You can flag them and still put them in whatever folders you want to. You could do this by 'copying messages' instead of moving them into the Chandler IMAP folders, but that's a lot of drag and drop effort on the part of the user.

We could also allow people to designate which collection they want flagged emails to go into. For example, I'd set up my OSAF IMAP account to put flagged messages into my Work collection and I'd set up my personal IMAP account to put flagged messages into my Holmes collection.

Hi Mimi,
Yes it would be possible to add this additional functionality. Although
I question whether it would be needed since Chandler Folders
can be used to do the same thing with more granularity.

Can you describe further your thought process
for this new feature.

Thanks,
Brian

Hi Brian,

I had a quick question. Currently we download all messages in your INBOX with Chandler headers, meaning all messages sent from other Chandler clients.

Can we do the same for all 'flagged' messages as well? This would be a way to simulate the proposed Tbird plug-in experience, but would work for anyone using any client so long as they had an IMAP account.

I think it would simply involve adding 2 checkboxes in the Incoming Mail account dialog to:
[ x ] Download messages sent from other Chandler Desktops
[ x ] Download flagged messages
