Here are two puzzles I came across. They were part of a larger battery, but
found these two the most difficult. They're of that
obnoxious "obvious once you know the answer" breed.
If you post a solution, put "spoiler" in the subject line (remove the word if
you're replying to such a post, and your reply
doesn't contain the solution). Do not post solutions if you already knew them
(i.e. had encountered the puzzle somewhere before).
For both puzzles, you must indicate the next item of the series, and describe
the pattern (i.e. defend your choice).
