John, Your rationale for the first puzzle is right.
Regarding the second puzzle, I at first said you did not solve it, then I said you did. Upon further review (and double-checking), the extension is not correct, except for the first element. You probably made the same minor error which caused my confusion. I would explain what that is, but if you don't have the answer, it would be a hint. If you provide your rational I can tell you with certainty.
