Spanish tends to use longer words, with more specific (but
perhaps redundant) modifiers than english.  But people speaking
spanish tend to speak faster than people speaking english -- the
built in redundancy helps here.

Also, people fluent in both languages seem to tend towards using
spanish verbs and english nouns.  (Spanish has richer verbs,
English has richer nouns).

[This is based on observations from living in LA, and three
semesters of spanish in college.  But linguists might be able
to correct some of the generalizations I have made.]
