I had thought of using the Latin "est" as well, but I wasn't sure non- English would be accepted. Is The word "be" (to me, at least) seems to connote a more "permanent" existence, whereas "is" might have a slightly more "temporary" feel (something is this value now, but it might have been different in the past and it might be different in the future). This could be particularly useful (at least mentally) in the context of setting constants: typ =: 3 (typ be 3) FWIW.
