I'm not sure of that. Actually, I'd vote for writing an script for  
building the .dmg/.pkg automatically (when I tried to generate the  
binary packages, I ended up having to interact with a GUI). In that  
way we could upload OS X packages on each single code release at  
almost no (time) cost.

I'm saying that because I could tell you about a dozen of programs  
I've installed on my MacOS X that I haven't updated since then - and I  
have no intention to do so either. Since I've done that, I expect  
other people to do the same. Quite shamefully I have not even  
installed Ports, but again, I haven't felt the need.
