Hey Jim, I did this to my 66 last year. I got a rebuilt one wire from Car Quest. I 
just hooked up the hot to 
the battery and that was it. I clipped the harness clean by the old regulator and 
tossed it. Only problem I had 
was my mounting brackets were some homemade mix and match that was there when I got it.
If I can find it, I'll post the CarQuest part#.
