Jim,

Go here:

Following this procedure will give you full function of your idiot light (if
you want to keep it). I used this method in my '66 El Camino. Simple and
effective.

Subject: [Chevelle-List] 1-wire alternator conversion question

I think I missed out on the prior discussion of this,
so I apologize in advance...

Has anyone done this conversion for a '66 and if so
could they send me some info on the how-to? I'm
getting tired of trying to track down a new VR (the
dealer just told me that for my year DelCo no longer
makes them), and I need the new harness too, so I may
as well upgrade right?

My only prob is, I have a brand new old-style
alternator in there now, so would anyone need it if I
do this?

Thx,

Jim
