Hi Kevin

Welcome to the list. I am sure you will find a lot of helpful info not only
here, but on the Team Chevelle website as well. Sounds like you have an
excellent project. I finshed a 70 Chevelle myself recently so I can give you
a few pointers as to what to look for. First of all, if it's going to be
your daily driver, get it mechanically sound first. Nothing is more
important than safety and dependability. Check out the steering linkage,
bushing, ball joints for wear and looseness. Redo the brakes if necessary.
If you want to upgrade, do the power disc conversion first. It is money well
spent. If you are strapped for cash on this then you can always go to a
junkyard and find any 68-72 GM A body (Cutlass, Lemans, Skylark, Monte Carlo,
Chevelle) w/ power discs and swap em out to the Chevelle. Also, you may
want to have the windshield and rear window resealed as they are prone to
leaking. Check for rot around the lower corners of the rear window,
especially if it once had a vinyl top. After you have checked out all these
things, then move on to the interior. It sounds like the paint is in decent
shape. Pull the carpet and sound deadner out and check for floor rot.
Wouldn't want to fall through it. Specifically the front floor pans and
under the rear seat (you may even find the build sheet under the rear seat).
I wouldn't tackle the trunk pan unless you have a lot of patients and are a
good welder. You may open up a can of worms if someone just welded a patch
over it. If you want, you can send me the VIN number and Cowl Tag info and I
will decode it for you so you know exactly what you have.

Tom
