Hey there welcome to the list. It sounds to me as to the others that you
have a nice little project. The best place to start is with the safety and
brake systems, something the other guys didn't mention about the safety are
the seat belts in your car, check to make sure they are not frayed or badly
worn, if they are you can get reproduction ones from various suppliers, or
you can get a modern shoulder/lap style seat belt system from places like JC
Whitney. This works with bucket seats, never tried it with a bench. If you
want to go on the cheap with your interior (after I fixed the safety and
brakes this would be my next venture) go to the junkyard and check out the
modern cars.... even Hondas!!! They have real nice seats and most if not
all can be adapted to fit in your 70, you can then go to an auto parts store
(like Advance Auto Parts, Auto Zone; guess who works there now) and get a
matching one peice headliner material and make a one peice headliner using
wax type card board (I have done this quite a few times, everybody I have
done it for they loved it I haven't gotten any complaints yet). Carpet can
be ordered through the resto companys or other places (if you want an off
the wall color get white carpet and dye it whatever you want it, white is
the easiest to dye). Your door panels can be homemade or you can use your
orginals if they are in good shape or you can get new ones from the order
houses. I am getting ideas like crazy for this car for you, interior wise
(this is what I do, but I needed some other business to help out while
business is slow, 19 years old with a hot rod and girl habit is pretty
expensive) All you have to do is sit down and figure out what you really
want, add it up what you think it will cost you, then double it. Why I say
to double it is so you are not too suprised if you get near that price. Four
years ago when I got my 66 I did this and I am about there, I did everything
I wanted done to the car, I now have $12,000 wrapped up in the old girl, but
now I am looking at going for a little more juice under the hood, we'll see.
The double is also good for a pad to your budget when you start working on
