this the 3 speed shift linkage is bolted to the cross member!!! When you
really get on it, it's a bear to shift. You drive almost everyplace in 2nd
gear, it sort of like having a man-matic if that's a word. I can take off in
2nd and drive around town, just push in the clutch when stopping and takeoff
again in second. I think the big block helps out allot with this but is kind
of nice for cruising. Unless I tell them or they ask everyone thinks it's a 4
speed bench car. If you go to this link you can see the bench seat shifter.
They have more of a loop in them.
BTW
my car is still not very far along. When these pictures where taken I lived in
Southern Cal. I moved and now live in southern Arkansas. Talk about a job
moving a non running car was hard enough..........packing up all the parts and
moving those was a job. I tore down the engine and brought it in pieces. The
car was transported in enclosed trailer and cost $1700 to move it out here.
The company I work for picked up that bill thank
goodness!!

one. Wonder how many knew that the 3 speed was standard and
the auto or
4 speed were the options? also the bench seat? I believe only 64
and 65
were bucket seat auto or 4 speed on the floor only SS cars.

My best friend has the
same car as you,three speed ,bench seat,396-325 hp,no power steering etc.The
colours are a wierd dark brown,with green interior.It was built in Canada,
and when calling G.M. archive services,to get all the original paper work on
the car,the fellow at G.M said this was the only one he had ever heard
of built in Canada.I showed my friend the picture of your stock three speed
shifter and that is the only way he found out it is still the original
shifter,as he had thought that it was an after market one since nobody that
looked at it could verify it for him,that it was the correct one.Maybe you
should start a 396-3speed registery,to see how few are out
there.
