Carl: Welcome to the list. A few tips: Take your time looking. Take a friend to talk you out of a questionable deal (emotions and excitement get in the way some times. Take your time looking. bring a creeper to check underneath , and a flashlight to check nooks and crannies. Take your time looking. Be extremely careful about buying over the internet ( I personally would never consider it.) Take your time looking. Walk away from a car you think is perfect, then come back in a few days. Odds are it is won't appear so perfect on the second viewing. And one more thing, take your time looking (did I mention that already?) :) Seriously, it is easy to get caught up in the excitement and settle for the first decent car you come across. Usually when you get it home is when you notice flaws you did not see the first time.
