I've built 2 454's thus far

the first one
1985 block, has stock cast crank/rods
oval port heads ported/polished
11:1 CR Speed pro pistons/moly rings
Crane powermax .427/.454 hydraulic
edleborck performer rpm intake
holley 3310 carb
double roller timing chain
stock valves/springs

built it for 2500 bucks including me buying the motor and getting it machined

now the second one:i put new everything in it
Eagle 4340 steel crank
Eagle SIR rods
same pistons/rings/cam/intake/carb/tc/
high volume oil pump
weiand water pump
comp cam roller rockers
crane energizer series pushrods
Manley Stainless valves 2.065/1.725
similar oval port head, older casting, ported/polished
crane energizer valve springs matched to cam

this one cost me a $5000 but i am very happy with the results. it has a
little more zip than the previous motor and its very good on gas.
avg MPG on highway is 15 and thats with 4.10 gears and 28" tires. I'd say it
has close to 475-500 flywheel horsepower, of course i don't have adyno sheet
to back that up, but its good enough for 12's :). I may eventually upgrade
it to a roller cam and aluminum heads.

Tom
