Your friend must be a world-class wrench or he is greatly understating the difficulty. A 12 bolt rear is stronger, simpler, and cheaper.

Clint,

I have a friend which will sell me one for around $ 1000, I'm not sure if it is a Dana 44, but it is a Corvette rear.
Why do you think it's to difficult to put it under a chevelle ?
do you think I would have to build a new floor ?
One of my friends in Norway have installed one under his '57 chevy pickup, he said installation was a snap, well nearly a snap at least.
I know a chevelle is a quite different car than a 57 pickup, but anyway.
What I was thinking is: a rear disk kit would cost about $ 500, or lets say $ 800 with taxes and shipping. the corvette rear is $ 1000 plus another $ 500 in shortening driveshaft and a new master and small parts etc.

Subject: Re: [Chevelle-List] corvette rear

I see them going for around $1,000 to $1,500. Width? I "think" they are approximately 60" but don't hold me to that number.
If you're thinking about putting one under a Chevelle,,forget it. Too much money and trouble.

If you are referring to the Dana 44 rear ends found in manual trans C4 Corvettes(85-96),the rear cover on the 44 has three bolts running across the top of the rear inspection cover. Dana 44 is also stamped on the housing.
