I'm not sure what the value of your el Camino is. I guess what I should have said is that you will probably have to settle for whatever book value is. That's what I had to do. The estimates to repair the damage to my motorcycle exceeded the value of the bike. I settled for book value and repaired the damage myself. Since the lions share of the cost in the estimates I got was labor, what I was able to save in labor costs left me with a surplus. I've been in the auto body industry in some capacity for the past 30+ years so I'm familiar with collision repair. Not every one can do it. If you feel you aren't capable of repairing the damage yourself you may not want to attempt a repair. You have to decide whether you have the ability, resources and time or are good enough friends with someone who has what it takes to repair the car. Having to pay labor for auto body repair drives the cost up in a hurry. It's easy to get in over your head with a wreck. Bill Vander Werf "Kelly C.
