I personally have never even heard of this trick.  I would go ahead and just 
change it not worry about the oil change.  the only thing i have ever heard 
that has anything to do with oil and auto transmission fluid is that before 
u change ur oil put a quart of atf in your oil and let it run for like 5 
min.  This will clean out the tarnish.  It did alot of good to my engine.  
The oil comes out lookin almost brand new.  If you got alot of miles though 
and never have done it, it may put the clearances and u might start getting 
engine noise but 10W-40 will take away those clearances.  It took a few oil 
changes before I could notice the change in the oil so don't expect it right 
away though.
