Auto transmission fluid is a very high detergent, low viscosity oil. The theory is if you run a quart of it through your engine, the high detergent level will clean out the carbon buildup left by the oil and blowby. As for the clearances, I think what he means is if there is a lot of carbon buildup in your engine, it may decrease the clearances between parts. Once the buildup is removed the clearances will increase creating new noises. If there is enough buildup inside to make the hydraulic lifters not function properly, the transmssion fluid should free up the lifter(s). Give it a try, it may help, it may not... cYa- Herb Lumpp 1966 El Camino ACES #3509 http://web.tampabay.rr.com/herbsworld/index.htm ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lojac" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Saturday, February 23, 2002 9:50 PM Subject: Re: [Chevelle-List] Strange Sounds!!! > > Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List > ------------------------------------------------------------ > > What is the point of cleaning out the tarnish in the oil you are about to > change anyway?
