dale my boss just picked up a 54. He wants to transplant a late model 350 also. In our research so far: yes it does have a closed drivetrain. Apparently the rear from a 67-69 fits very well. 70-81 is a bit wider but can work. Check the forums at www.chevytalk.com - thats where we've gotten most info so far. They have a forum specifically for 48-54 chevys.
