check the grounds first, you may hav to drop the tank to do this-empty is 
better.
the sender is on the top of the tank, the wire runs back and into the trunk, 
i think it is a light brown?? should have its own grommet- i think the ground 
is at the front of the tank or on top.

The fuel gauge on my 71 is not working correctly. It seems to fluctuate 
between 1/4 and 3/4 and never report to full or empty. It does move but not 
correctly. What is the most likely cause?  Does this car have a sending 
unit that could be a suspect?  Where would it be located?
