I had the same wide rear end in my 67 SS hardtop for a few years and ran
a 235/60x15 tire on 15x8 ARE Outlaw I wheels w/3.75" backspacing and there
wasn't much room left for a larger size. I think 245's would have rubbed
the lettering off the tires. I put those same wheels and tires on my 67
Elky (with a 67 rear end) and have no clearance problems at all. It's that
little bit of extra width that'll get you.

Are you running the original width rear end.
My 66 has a 70 el-camino rear, I currently run 235-60-15s & was wondering if 245-60-15s would work with my set up. Thanks
