Although the urge to cruise in a big block is great, you should resist for several reasons...the first is money. If you had the money to build or buy one and then got it out on the street, chances are you'd not have the resources to keep it in tip-top shape. There are a million mistakes waiting to happen at your age and each one costs time and money to fix. It would be much easier (and safer) to cut your teeth on a small block car. Less you have to break, the better until you get experience behind you.
The second reason is safety. Those BB's can get outta hand very quickly. Everyone in town is gonna wanna race you and that will be very hard to resist. One or two missed shifts or bad launches can ruin your day as well as hurt you or others. Since my dad wasn't a car guy, he made sure there was no road rocket in the driveway until after my first two years as a driver.
I lost a very good friend one night in high school to a drag race. A local guy and he raced and my buddy went out of control and hit a guardrail....my friend was going 100+....nothing left of either car as they collided in a twisted heap. My friend was 16 and drove a 442...too powerful a car for the experience he had. I know accidents are never in the plan...and they can happen in any car, but why take the chance to increase the odds?
