You're going to have to remove one of the connectors, cut the wire, and reattach the connector. If possible, slide the boot back and observe how the connector is attached to the wire itself (not the insulation); you'll need to be able to duplicate this connection (might require a special crimping tool).
I've never been good at making my own wires but that's probably because I've done it only a few times and used ordinary hand tools. If the wires are supposed to be a custom-fit set for your application I'd return them because it sounds like they're incorrectly sized. Brad O. > Have a question, may seem dumb but what the hay.
